Fort Bend History Association’s signature experience – the 36 annual Texian Market Days festival is quickly approaching! Scheduled for Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26 at the George Ranch Historical Park, this event celebrates our history and the people, places and events that have shaped the county where we all live, work, and play. TMD showcases nearly 200 years of Texas history, starting with the original 300 settlers who set the stage for what our county, state and country would become. This event draws nearly 6,000 attendees annually and we invite you to participate as volunteers to help make this event happen.Your support will help our pioneer re-enactors make cornbread from scratch, provide lasso lessons from our cowboys, unearth artifacts in an archaeology dig, make a battle reenactment possible, and allow us to present the Dr. Bushrod’s Medicine Show to festival goers. TMD is a living link to the sights and sounds of more than a century of Texas and county history. Will you show your Fort Bend County pride by being a volunteer?

Friends of Reinstein Woods is hosting the 9th annual Nature's Gathering fundraiser to support the environmental education programs and diverse projects at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve. This fundraiser allows us to expand our outreach into underserved neighborhoods and make nature and our incredible environment accessible to all. The vital financial support of the Friends group allowed us to offer guided outdoor lessons to more than 5000 school children last year. We were also able to offer programs such as the After School Conservation Club which introduces elementary-aged urban youth to nature. Much of this work is possible due to events such as Nature's Gathering. This fun night brings together the community to enjoy local art, food, and drinks while raising funds for these great causes. These programs, activities, and events would not be possible without the support of the generous community and volunteers. Volunteers at this event will help with food service, ticket collection, basket raffle sales, set up, clean up and other important tasks to make this event successful. Volunteers of this event will receive soft drinks and light food throughout their shifts.Available Shifts

Each year, San Diego River Park Foundation volunteers remove more than 200,000 pounds of trash from our River. Without our amazing volunteers, this trash would be left to pollute native animal habitats, create unsightly piles in our parks and public spaces, leach contaminants into the water, and could be washed out in to our ocean and beaches!YOU can help with this critical work! The Clean & Green Team is a group of enthusiastic volunteers that focus on cleaning up storm water debris and litter. Volunteers use pickers and gloves to pack this trash into garbage bags, then haul it to a dumpster.
Join us as we work to remove trash and debris from a tributary of the San Diego River, Forester Creek. This is a great activity for people interested in clean water and a clean habitat for the plants and animals that call the river home.
Location: Meet at the Santee Public Works building at 9534 Via Zapador Santee, 92071. Please see the Google map for visual location: http://goo.gl/maps/PxjrP
