Come and help build an environmentally friendly strawbale home at this weekend wall raising event. Learn how to build using straw bales - notching bales, making custom bales, and stacking.During the weekend you will build all the walls of a energy efficient strawbale home and learn how to detail doors and windows and apply a coat of plaster to the bales. It's fun, exciting and educational all wrapped into helping promote this environmentally sustainable way of building.
Sustainable building at it's best.
Using straw benefits us all because it is:
- an agricultural waste product often burned
- superior insulation saving energy for years
- annually renewable, there's no shortage of straw
- easy to build with, friends and family can do all the bale work
- sound absorbing, quiet and peaceful to be inside
- strong, with 18" thick walls it's very stable
Helping people build a home you will be part of a great community based building effort, demonstrating how individuals can make a difference in their communities needs.
You will learn and work alongside Michael Thomas, Executive Director of IronStraw who has over 25 years experience building strawbale homes, libraries, schools, farmworker housing and more throughout the Pacific Northwest and internationally in New Zealand.
More information about this weekend opportunity and what to bring is available on IronStraw's website at www.ironstraw.org/workshop.htm
