The Blue Heart Sanctuary is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating an environment that mirrors the experience of Heaven on Earth through the power of pure, unconditional love. We believe that the presence of animals offers a profound and tangible connection to this love, which has the power to heal and transform lives. We sustained a direct hit from Hurricane Helene and an EF3 tornado took down hundreds of trees, making many areas of the Sanctuary inaccessible.
We are seeking volunteers to assist with cutting downed trees, clearing and stacking logs, splitting logs and burning brush. Our perimeter fencing was destroyed and we are seeking volunteers to assist with repairing the downed sections.
Weather permitting, we also have a need for painting and staining.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Clean Ocean Action's Beach Sweeps and have made it a successful and sought-after activity every Spring and Fall for nearly 40 years. Since launching the region’s first beach cleanup program in 1985, over 169,675 volunteers have participated, removed, and tallied 8,491,233 pieces of debris from over 80 sites in 62 municipalities and parks along the Atlantic Ocean coast, bay shores, inland rivers, streams, and the Delaware River. At each Beach Sweeps event, volunteers write down and tally the items collected from beaches on data cards, which are available in English and Spanish. The data cards, completed by volunteers, provide a valuable snapshot of pollution problems, particularly from single-use plastic items.
Clean Ocean Action staff reviews the data cards submitted by Beach Captains from the dozens of sites and enters the data into a database system. The data from hundreds of data cards is totaled and analyzed for trends with previous years of data. The data is then presented in an annual report that is used educate people about the items found on beaches, and to advocate for legislation and ordinances to reduce sources of pollution.

YAAPHA needs volunteers to work on conservation projects that aim to tackle some of the world’s most significant environmental issues - habitat destruction, wildlife extinction and the seeking of sustainable development for local communities. YAAPHA’s conservation projects are a unique opportunity for volunteers to live in remote areas with spectacular ecosystems and amazing wildlife. The volunteers would be working alongside professionals and other volunteers on adventurous projects that search for practical and sustainable means to reach their goal. The conservation projects are a national effort; from volunteering in the heart of the Kilimanjaro mountain forest.
Activity Description for this project are as follows:-
1. Plant Trees A conservation awareness volunteer would work with the local staff when they visit different schools and plant trees on the grounds of these schools. This would include getting the children in their schools to participate and encouraging them to continue on with other conservation projects for their schools.
2. Tree Nurseries The organization has their own tree nurseries at their centers and a conservation awareness volunteer would be required to help in these nurseries; be it to help in the care of the trees, maintaining the nursery structures or in the development of new nurseries.
3. Environmental Awareness A conservation awareness volunteer would be expected to assist staff in their environmental awareness educational endeavor conducted in different communities and schools. The organization has different methods of providing this awareness according to the community targeted. Many community members destroy the environment due to their lack of knowledge regarding environmental issues.
4. Soil Erosion Control YAAPHA works in efforts to prevent soil erosion in farming communities and grazing lands. A conservation awareness volunteer would be expected to work with the staff to educate the local farmers on improved methods of farming techniques that help prevent soil erosion.
5. Construction of Water Holes In most dry areas YAAPHA has initiated water hole projects. The construction of these holes are for the use of the people in the local communities. A conservation awareness volunteer would be expected to help with these projects.
