In a sincere effort to give back to the Township and the surrounding community – who together give us so many services and support – the Arc carefully trims the annual growth of vegetation by hand along Cave Road. This enables emergency vehicles, school buses, neighbors, and visitors to safely and easily pass through the area. Because we rely on volunteers, we can do this work by hand as opposed to the more time-efficient but more mechanical means employed by road crews. The result? Cave Road is able to retain its time-honored pristine beauty for all of us to enjoy!

Augusta University is a committed member of our local community. Every year, the students, staff, and faculty of AU join together to volunteer their time for countless local organizations, including the Land Trust. This year, we’ll be building all sorts of cool things on our Greystone Preserve, including a new home for our bees, arbors and benches for the campus, and planting more goodies in the food forest.

You don’t have to be a part of AU to lend a hand, either. Sign up today and help beautify your community.

The 34th annual Coastal Cleanup Day event invites volunteers from our community to clean up trash. Every year since 2005, ECOSLO coordinates beach cleanups from San Simeon to Nipomo. Even though Central Coast beaches are cleaner than some, last year we removed nearly 6,500 pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, waterways and lakes.

In California, Coastal Cleanup Day holds the distinction of drawing the most participation of any volunteer event over its thirty year history. As County Coordinator, ECOSLO works with the California Coastal Commission to bring out our community in the campaign for healthy coasts, shorelines, and oceans. Last year, 1,300 volunteers removed trash and recyclables from 30 cleanup locations throughout San Luis Obispo County.

Check out our event page at http://ecoslo.org/coastal-cleanup-day/. Please note that while liking and joining this event on facebook helps make it visible (and please share it everywhere!), we ask that you sign up online at http://ecoslo.org/coastal-cleanup-day/ to help us anticipate supplies needed for each site.

The annual Bidwell Park and Chico Creeks Cleanup focuses on bringing the community together to remove several tons of waste from our local waterways and park system. This event has been successful for 30 years due in large part to the help of 400-500 volunteers and financial sponsorship from local businesses. By coming together as a community to take care of our local natural environment we can help preserve it for the enjoyment of future generations.

High School students identify real-world problems, research on it and formulate a solution. Students are always seeking business professionals to speak to and understand the issues as well as to understand current solutions. The professional will be duly acknowledged by the student in their research paper publication.

Even an opportunity to discuss in about 30 minutes will be much appreciated. If interested to volunteer and be available for a brief discussion in your area of expertise, please email info@childrensinnovationcenter.org with your contact information and your professional area of expertise, so we could connect the right student doing project in that area.

KNOX will hold a volunteer event to do a general clean-up of our site. This will include weeding our farm and herb garden, cleaning the chicken coop, and sprucing up our grounds. This event will support KNOX's urban incubator farm program, which provides beginning farmers with the land and training to scale up their production and launch their own farming businesses. Our farmers sell their produce at 5 farmers markets throughout the city, including our new Frog Hollow Farmers Market at KNOX! We can accommodate up to 20 volunteers for this event. Volunteers do not need to bring any tools. We recommend wearing sneakers, layers, and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Bathrooms are available in the KNOX building. We will provide food and water for volunteers. If the event needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather, we will notify volunteers and reschedule.
