Scion Trust, a Kenyan Incorporated public charity is in need of an experienced grant writer specialized in agroforestry, agriculture, permaculture, reforestation, business/market or gardening related project proposals to help us in writing a proposal for our proposed market focused agroforestry project.

Opportunity Details

We're back out on Anderson Island, and we need your help to finishing plant trees and shrubs near South Oro Bay.

This event requires you to drive your own vehicle onto the Anderson Island Ferry out of Steilacoom, WA (unless you live close to or on Anderson Island). The ferry costs a little under $20 round trip for the driver and an average size vehicle (there is a senior discount, and the Land Trust can reimburse you for the cost).

Take the 8:20am ferry to Anderson Island. We will finish the work party in time for you to catch the 12:45pm ferry, and there are also ferry return times at 3:15pm and 4:20pm.

Once on the island, you will head to the worksite, following the directions sent to you via e-mail with your registration confirmation. The work site is a 10-minute drive from the ferry terminal.

We need your help to plant native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers at our Lackamas Flats Protected Area. These plants will restore native riparian forests along the Nisqually River, which are important for salmon and other wildlife.

These volunteer opportunities will be open to all ages and are geared towards families with younger kids as an opportunity for them to get involved, give back and learn.

The volunteer projects will generally be located in the botanical gardens and cultural sites and will focus on things like weeding, cleaning, site maintenance and invasive species removal.

RSVP are required to attend the event. Gloves and tools will be provided along with a project that is suitable to the group.

The basic schedule for one of these volunteer days will be:
9:00am Volunteers Arrive sign waivers
9:15am Volunteer group will participate in the oli protocol
9:30am Arrive at Volunteer Site
11:30am Volunteer project is finished, volunteers are encouraged to get lunch at our snack shop and then explore the valley.*
