The Seattle Aquarium would not be what it is without our talented, dedicated and passionate volunteers—amazing and generous people who are interested in learning more about the marine world around them, getting their hands dirty, and inspiring others to conserve our one world ocean.

Full details about our volunteer program can be found at: https://www.seattleaquarium.org/adult-volunteers

We have two opportunities to volunteer with the Aquarium:

Habitat Interpretation: Habitat interpreters share their enthusiasm and stories about Aquarium animals with our guests, answer questions and facilitate conversations to help people better understand the marine environment. Don’t know much about marine animals and their habitats? You can still serve as a habitat interpreter! To prepare for time spent in our habitats, all Aquarium volunteers receive extensive training on our marine animals and interpretive communication techniques. Volunteers are assigned to a team of eight to 15 volunteers and led by a staff marine science interpreter, who shares the important work of actively engaging our guests. The minimum time commitment required for habitat interpreters is one four-hour shift every week for a minimum of six continuous months; shifts begin at 9am, 11am and 2pm seven days a week.

Next orientation will be in January 2024

To RSVP for an orientation, email volunteers@seattleaquarium.org at least three days prior to the orientation date.

Divers
Aquarium divers share enthusiasm and stories about our animals with Aquarium guests using underwater communication equipment while performing habitat maintenance and animal husbandry tasks. Aquarium volunteer divers receive extensive training on our marine animals and interpretive communication techniques.

The minimum time commitment required for volunteer divers is one three-hour shift every other week. All volunteers are required to successfully complete a criminal background check prior to beginning their service and must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Eligibility requirements and the Diver Experience Form can be found at: https://www.seattleaquarium.org/adult-volunteers

Opportunity Details

Objective of this project is to improve engagement from our social media channels.

**Description of project**
We want to use social media primarily to educate people about our cause (impact, what can they do), raise awareness and engage with prospective donors and volunteers.

Although we have revolutionary cookstoves, we don't have the experience or bandwidth to use social media to tell our story effectively. We are looking for a social media superstar who can run some of our social channels (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Tiktok) for sometime and in addition teach us on how to do so.

Increasing effectiveness from social media channels will lead to increasing awareness about our mission and will translate directly to increase in donations. This will enable us to increase our scale of implementations globally

**This project involves:**
- Creating content for various social channels (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Tiktok)
- Increasing our engagement and growing our audience

Objective of this project is to create engaging content (images, infographics, videos, gifs, etc) that we can use on our website and on our various social platforms.

**Description of project**
We have a lot of compelling photos and videos from our implementations of Prakti cookstoves. We now need to turn these amazing assets into compelling and engaging content that we can use on our website (www.prakti.in) and our social channels (instagram, youtube, facebook, linkedin).

This improved content will help us engage with our prospective donors and volunteers, educate them, and communicate our impact in a more effective way.

This work will have a direct impact to the amount of money we can raise and on volunteers, thus increasing the number of cookstoves we can deploy in the field.

**This project involves:**
- Going through our existing assets (photos, videos) and turning them into engaging content (images, videos, infographics)

Objective of this project is to research and compile past carbon financing initiatives for improved cookstove projects.

**Description of project**
Carbon financing is an incredible tool that will allow us to make Prakti cookstoves highly affordable for even the poorest families! But, carbon financing must be done carefully and responsibly so that it benefits both the users as well as the environment. There have been multiple examples where carbon credit projects were ill-considered with stoves that people didn’t like to use or that didn’t perform as they were promised, causing a burden to the cooks as well as invalidating the carbon credits themselves. See [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW3gaelBypY) for an unsuccessful stove project example (starting at 9:20min).

In order to ensure Prakti’s carbon financing is as successful and mutually beneficial as possible, we want to do a review of past carbon-financed stove projects and learn everything that we can about what mistakes to avoid and what advice to follow. Check out our website [www.prakti.in](http://www.prakti.in) for details on our cookstoves.

**This project involves:**
- Researching online about Carbon financing projects
- Compiling findings (lessons learnt, what worked, what did not work, etc)
- Creating a short written report or slide deck summarizing your findings

If we are able to get carbon financing, we can subsidize our stoves and even offer it for free. This will dramatically increase the target audience that can adopt our improved cookstoves. We have cookstoves ready to go and the main barrier is affordability. Carbon financing will help us overcome this last barrier!
