The March of Dimes Foundation (MOD) is the leading nonprofit voluntary health agency for pregnancy and baby health. Founded in 1938 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, its original goal was to direct and unify public health efforts concerning poliomyelitis. Following the successful eradication of polio in the U.S., the March of Dimes changed its focus to maternal and child health.Today, the mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. This is accomplished through programs in four areas: research, community service, education and advocacy. Since 2003, the March of Dimes has led efforts to end the crisis of premature birth, the number one cause of death for newborns. Our multi-year Prematurity Campaign aims to raise awareness and find the causes of prematurity in order to decrease the U.S. preterm birth rate from 9.6% to 5.5%.
The March of Dimes Maitland Chapter works locally to provide support for innovative and evidence-based programs designed to reduce health disparities and preterm birth, and to increase knowledge among women of childbearing years about the importance of healthy lifestyles for a healthy baby.
The Orlando Signature Chef Event raises funds to assist in those areas needed as we work daily towards a world in which every baby has the opportunity to thrive, live the future they choose and grow up to change the world.
