The City of Ocean Springs and Disability Connection have partnered to develop one fully inclusive play space for Ocean Springs at Little Children’s Park. After extensive research, the Little Children’s Park Playground was selected as the best location for the investment in new equipment. The park was selected due to its central location, fully accessible bathrooms, a pavilion, shade, and popularity with the community. This park was identified as the easiest and most cost-effective to adapt, and a convenient location for many older adults with mobility impairments.
The Ocean Springs School District is also in need of an inclusive playground for field trips, due to over 900 children with disabilities (16% of students.) The Little Children’s Park is already an extremely popular playground for families and schools, but it currently does not have accessible playground equipment for individuals with wheelchairs and significant mobility impairments.
We need the help of volunteers to build, organize lunch, and other things associated with a playground build.
