The past two years have mainly been defined by restrictions on in-person opportunities for recreation and connection. In many cases, these restrictions have disproportionately impacted seniors, contributing to poorer mental, physical, and cognitive well-being.

June is Seniors Month in Ontario. This year, we at the Unionville Community Centre for Seniors (UCCS) make a special effort to celebrate the diversity and resiliency of the seniors in our community by offering extra opportunities for them to gather safely.

To this end, we are seeking passionate BMO employee volunteers to help host our "Strawberry Social" on the afternoon of Friday, June 17. This event will be hosted at the Unionville Community Centre for Seniors (UCCS) in Markham. It will be an outdoor social (weather permitting, rain-or-shine) complete with games (i.e., bingo, trivia, darts, horseshoes, cornhole, etc.), treats (i.e., cakes, ice creams), and cool beverages (i.e., lemonade, iced tea, etc.). We anticipate that 40-50 participants will attend. Prizes (i.e., flowering plants, gift certificates, etc.) will be awarded to the winners of the games. The ultimate purpose of this activity is to engage seniors in our community in a low-risk opportunity for socializing and recreation.

We will require volunteers to assist with set-up/take-down, serving refreshments, running games, and awarding prizes. All BMO employee volunteers will also have the opportunity to socialize and connect with our senior participants.

Volunteer Requirements:
- Due to our vulnerable population, we require Volunteers to wear a mask during the event.

The requested budget allocation for this project is $300.00. This amount will cover the cost of refreshments (i.e., cakes, ice creams, beverages), prizes, and additional supplies (i.e., disposable cups, plates, cutlery, bingo daubers, games, etc.).

Below is an approximate budget breakdown:

Refreshments - $150.00
Prizes - $75.00
Additional supplies - $75.00

Mission Statement: CrowdDoing.world's Foods.& Herbs for Stress,Sleep & Anxiety Initiative aims to give people agency by educating people about their options with regards to their natural remedies for these aspects of their mental health. We do so by analyzing scientific research and clinical evidence, gathering new evidence through data science and citizen science, and recommending to individuals optimal combinations of teas, tinctures, and powders that can be used to achieve each individual's mental health goals. We conduct this research with the goal of allowing people to make informed decisions about their health and to increase access to healthy stress-coping alternatives. These healthy coping mechanisms can reduce reliance on harmful self-medication practices such as alcohol abuse or behavior likely to lead to opioid addiction. Value Proposition: Tinctures, teas and powders from herbal medicine combinations can represent better risk/reward ratios Through citizen science and data science over time we have the aspirational goal to meet and exceed evidence parity with regards to evidence of effectiveness for herbal medicines for stress & anxiety compared with pharmaceuticals. That mission is attractive for people to participate in as its an opportunity for global collaboration to create increasingly usable natural medicine for stress and anxiety. Each person can go upstream of their mental health challenges and adopt healthier coping mechanisms.

The Fedora Open is the major fundraiser for The Michael “Mickey” Soroka Charitable Foundation. It is held in the summer in advance of the major project requests that occur in the fall generated by the teachers and staff of the K-12 Campbell City Schools. Normally, we hold two fundraisers each year. The two annual fundraisers generate funds that provide educational assistance and contribute to academic programs which inspire and guide students of Campbell City Schools. However, due to the pandemic, the 2021 & 2022 March Breakfast fundraiser was cancelled just as both fundraisers were cancelled in 2020. The Soroka Foundation does not have any paid staff, so all net fundraising is used for the education of students.
