Our annual recycled fashion show is a fundraising event that helps us fund several of Young at Art’s Community Initiatives, like ArtReach, YAA on the Go, STEAM for early learners and Girls N’ Power. Their aim is to help enable students in underserved communities to utilize art as a means of empowerment and understanding.

The Fashion show itself features garments designed, created, and modeled by teens. Each garment is made using a particular recycled material, and is meant to bring awareness to a certain environmental issue.

Be part of the fun and join us on November 15th!

CrowdDoing Medicinal Foods Citizen Science Team Volunteers , CrowdDoing is aiming to help people test what foods achieve medicinal function through citizen science and user medicinal food individual testing. CrowdDoing has had more than 3000 volunteers apply to help it with a variety of social innovations. CrowdDoing was co-founded by Match4Action and Reframe it.
Almost everyone has heard the phrase ""An apple a day keeps the doctor away"" . In most of the world’s cultures there are food items which are known to have specific health benefits. Such traditional knowledge has not received the level of scientific investigation that it could have. As a consequence, when we need a solution for a health-related problem, we only have pharmaceutical drugs to go to.

There is a growing movement called ""citizen science"" where citizens contribute to and become part of the scientific investigation process. Citizen science utilizes the power of the diversity and (large) number of citizens.

The ""Medicinal Foods"" project in Crowd Doing has two goals:

Use citizen science to gather and validate data about the different foods and food-preparations from both traditional knowledge and current scientific enquiry.
To make such data available for use by anyone in the world through online apps.

If you have any questions about processes for joining CrowdDoing.world as a volunteer to support our efforts in systemic change please write to volunteerorientation@crowddoing.world

Paradise Hills Elementary is hosting its annual Spring Fiesta! Our school celebrates culture, diversity and the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA). This event is our way to fund VAPA instruction for our Title I school and its approximately 300 students. As we are approximately 90% under the poverty level, the majority of our students come from families who cannot otherwise afford to pay for these activities but we believe they are vital to the success of all students! Studies have found that when students are able to in Visual and Performing Arts programs (such as music) students who engage in music had higher average grades than students who do not participate in music. Our students are a little young to start thinking about the SAT's but as parents and educators it's never too early to plan ahead. According to the National Association for Music Education, on the 2012 SAT, students who participated in music scored an average of 31 points above average in reading, 23 points above average in math, and 31 points above average in writing. The Paradise Hills Elementary PTA works hard to earn the approximately $40,000 a year it takes to run our VAPA program. We earn on average $3,000 at this event but are shooting for $4,000 this year! We cannot afford to fund drumming, dance, ballet folklorico, choir and many of our additional activities without fundraisers such as this one. We also cannot hold this event without volunteers! Please help us fulfill our students VAPA dreams!
