When’s camp, Mom? When’s camp?I’m told by many parents this question is asked over and over by their children as the days lead up to camp. Summer camps are vitally important to kids from all walks of life including children with Autism and other developmental disabilities. In Escambia and Santa Rosa County there are an estimated 2500 hundred children with Autism whose families face the challenge of finding safe, affordable and appropriate placement in summer camps and recreational outlets. These children not only require programs that are inclusive, but programs that are highly specialized and designed to meet the needs of each individual's special needs.
This is the tenth year the King Richard Foundation (KRF) will sponsor kids with special needs participation in summer camp programs. The foundation continues to have success and grow each year with the generous support from the business community, friends and neighbors. We have set a goal to sponsor eight candidates attendance at camp this year and will need your support to achieve this goal. Our hope is that no child will be left behind regardless of the cost, which can range from $600.00 to $2800.00, depending on the needs of the child. And, needless to say, most of our parents need assistance with the tuition. These camps on average are from four weeks to eleven weeks and offer a variety of activities including singing, dancing, trips to the movies, mall, beach, etc. and more importantly, they are learning life skills while having fun.

TASK’s Annual Family Fun Day & Resource Fair is a free, public event for people with disabilities and their families. It includes a resource fair—where families can seek out valuable, disability-centered programs, services and resources for all ages and all disabilities—and a family-oriented fun day with children’s activities. It’s held in an accessible park, where all children can participate and parents can relax, knowing they are in a safe and understanding space. There will be games, entertainment, music, children’s crafts, door prizes, and concessions. This year, there will also be stations where children can make Mother’s Day gifts and cards and we will offer special door prizes for mothers.Available Shifts
