Goal: This annual event is the only of its kind in our county - we gather professional organizations to equip people with disabilities with the information they need to be safe and prepared in the face of an emergency! As the Disability Advocacy Center, we support individuals to live their most independent life regardless of any cross-disabilities.As an organization that employs persons with disabilities, it is essential to have the physical support of volunteers to help set up, run, and break down from the event.

Hello,I am a parent helping with Linn-Mar Post Prom this year, specifically handling donations and prizes. Our event will be held on May 13-14 at ImOn Ice in Cedar Rapids. The goal of Linn-Mar Post Prom is to keep students safe on prom night. We do this by providing a supervised, safe, alcohol and drug free after prom event. Linn-Mar Post Prom is FREE for students to attend, whether or not they attend prom, giving students another much-needed social option without the expense and expectations of prom. Some area schools charge students to attend their post prom; however, we believe it is best to keep this event free to students to encourage attendance and so that there are no financial barriers for students to attend.
Students enjoy games, food, a hypnotist, and prizes. Grand prizes are given out in the early morning and students must be present to win, which ensures that student's remain at post prom, after which they return home safely. Parent and business donations cover the many expenses of this event: the venue, food, prizes, and security to name a few.
In the past, Kohl’s employee volunteers have helped with set up. The prize set up is quite time consuming. At the Ice Arena, this involves hauling prizes upstairs (there is an elevator), creating prize tags, arranging prizes on long tables, and attaching tags to the appropriate prizes. In addition, this may require creating raffle prize grab bags or other freebie bags for the event.
I am flexible about when volunteers would like to help and can start any time between 4 and 7 pm. I would just need to know how many volunteers and when they would be coming so that I can plan accordingly.
We also need volunteers during the event, with most shifts 10:30 pm – 2 am. If there are any employee night owls, we’d love to have you! We have a difficult time finding parents willing or able to stay up that late.
Thank you!
Cathy Fitzsimmons
