D.A.R.E. Days in the Park is an annual event organized by the Burlington Police Department D.A.R.E. Officers and Burlington Recreation & Parks Department staff. Fifth grade graduates of the D.A.R.E. program at 10 different elementary schools are recognized for their accomplishments and completion of the program through this celebration event. The students positively interact with police officers and Recreation personnel while participating in staff-led activities such as dancing, kickball, dodge ball, relay races, etc. Students also enjoy riding the miniature train and Dentzel Carousel located in the largest City-owned park in Burlington. The event lasts 5 hours and a pizza lunch is served to students midday. Approximately 800 students attend this event over the course of two days. (Half of the students attend the first day and the other half attends the second day.) Guest/motivational speakers are often brought in to reinforce the D.A.R.E. principles & message as well as offer encouragement to students. Students not only have positive interaction with law enforcement and other public service professionals during this event, it is a great way for them to see first-hand that drug & alcohol use is not required to have a good time.Available Shifts
