VetFuel is an organziation that has done alot of good and we are in transition. The grant applications are no longer applications as much as they are foundations calling us asking us to apply for funding or simply telling us they "have a check forthcoming" based on our GuideStar profile. We recently became licensed to solicit in Maine, where the highest percentage of rural veterans are, and one of the highest percentages of V.A. Rural Health dollars are focused. We also are 30 days out from being authorized to solicit in Arizona, in order to assist with veterans displaced by the destruction of four large homeless encampments that actually made national news. The problem is we need a corporate donor so we can focus on tackling the root of these issues and not simply writing grants all the time. This writer works full time for the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services in Bridgeport & runs VetFuel part time. An average of 30 hours a week is spent in these endeavors to write program grants.

At this point, our growth scale is considerable, but we need a larger office, local programming, and we need to publish data in peer reviewed journals on the very real (and very positive outcomes) our programs have. In short--we give access to care that saves veteran lives.

This writer is of the belief that everyone, knows someone, that likes to donate to causes on an annual basis. We believe that an annual donation of $10,000.00 would free up significant time in our schedules and track down matching donors.

Veterans we work with--just don't say one day--today is the day I'm going to commit suicide, or today is the day I'm going to become addicted to narcotics, or today is the day I'm going to bring my gun to the V.A. to show them I mean business. There are series of warning signs and they are all measurable with public health measures surrounding resiliency and empathy--or the lack thereof. I think we can scale risk assessments for veterans way before they become high risk if we can track prevalence of public health measures, such that these participant populations can be forewarned of traits that make them more likely to have negative life based outcomes--.

This writer also believes that available apps., like Apple's Red White and Blue app. could be used to gain participant populations, engage them in meaningful--high yield low risk programming, while ensuring the Apple brand stays in the forefront. "Today on the App Store, users can learn more about Team RWB (Team Red, White & Blue), an app that brings veterans together through fitness events and community service. The App Store also features a collection of apps that lend a hand to those serving in the military." https://9to5mac.com/2020/11/11/apple-honors-veterans-day-with-donations-ipads-discounts-and-more/.

We need to begin focusing locally on organizations that can help make connections to help that feels like help, while staying connected to each other in meaningful ways. A corporate donor volunteer--to help VetFuel research and cultivate a corporate donor would do that.

At 26 Letters we offer medical funds and humanitarian aid packages but we are still a young NGO and our resources are quite limited. To guarantee the well-being of all families, collaborations with other NGOs and associations are essential. The well-being department, or the “caring grandparents” as we call them, guarantees that our families are assisted in every possible way through our own programs or through referrals. When we are contacted by a family that either needs assistance in an area out of our scope or that lives outside Beirut, our caring granparents ensure that they are referred to another organization that can provide such help.

While our team in Beirut works on purchasing, assembling and distributing our survival packages in Beirut, our online-based volunteers work on searching for alternative and collaborative ways to help.

Our caring grandparents protect our families and provide them with the love and care that they deserve.

This year we have chosen to do a drive-thru Easter Egg Hunt in the Jackson community to make it safer for COVID. We are holding the event at the Jackson Community Center. We believe these community events are important for a sense of community in our Village. Even though we can't all get together and scatter in the field we will still be able to see everyone safely, get to wave at the bunny and hand them a treat to go home with.
