Tidewater Search and Rescue is looking for new members!

Tidewater Search and Rescue (TSAR) is a 100% volunteer search, rescue, and recovery organization providing vital services to the citizens and visitors of Virginia. TSAR was established in 1985 and is comprised of approximately 40 members.

We provide specially trained professional volunteers to find lost or missing people in urban, rural, wilderness, or disaster environments. Our members are fully insured through TSAR and are certified in ground search and rescue, human tracking, and search management services. We are available to deploy our resources, at no charge, to search and rescue missions throughout Virginia 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Our missions vary with the subject; we get called out to search for lost children, Alzheimer’s patients, overdue hunters and hikers, and even missing aircraft. Our purpose, however, remains constant – to save lives in the outdoors. Often times this work can be physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging, but the personal rewards can be tremendous when the combined efforts of everyone involved help to save a life. TSAR members provide vital pre-hospital care, if necessary, during the evacuation phase of a rescue and are often the lifesaving conduit between the missing person and emergency medical services.

As a 501(c)3, TSAR keeps its operating costs to a minimum. In addition to paying a modest annual dues to help offset operational costs, our members pay for all of their own personal clothing, equipment, fuel, and transportation to and from rescue missions and trainings.

TSAR provides community outreach by working closely with the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts, as well as other youth groups in our community. TSAR also provides valuable lifesaving instruction in search and rescue strategy, techniques, and management to local law enforcement, fire/rescue, park rangers, and other search and rescue groups throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Join us for our next New Member Orientation Meeting every 3rd Thursday of the month (except Dec.) at 6:00 pm at the Norfolk EOC, 3661 E. Virginia Beach Boulevard, Norfolk, VA. or contact me directly for more information about how you can make a difference.
