Become a part of our mission to empower youth to be health leaders through education, mentorship and community outreach.

MIKE Program is seeking individuals who are deeply committed to advancing health promotion and disease prevention for all. MIKE is a growing nonprofit public health initiative addressing the conditions leading to chronic diseases, including obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, risky lifestyle behaviors and socio-economic factors. MIKE mentors low-income, often racial/ethnic minority youth enrolled in low-resource schools, currently in North Portland, Beaverton and Hillsboro, Oregon. Youth participants are guided through MIKE’s health activities in the health, core or afterschool classes to create a health leadership project promoting healthy behaviors for their peers, families and communities.

Serving has its rewards.

Serving on MIKE’s Board of Directors offers you a way to learn and use your skills to make a positive impact within the organization and the community at large. With a two-year commitment as a member of MIKE’s Board of Directors, you will serve as a volunteer leader. Responsibilities as a member include governance, setting strategy and championing fundraising goals to advance the mission of MIKE. Meeting these responsibilities may involve committee work, guiding the organization through fund raising events and/or other campaigns or participating in other volunteer leadership activities.

You can make a difference.

We are looking for people with connections in their own communities and who are enthusiastic about representing health and education as a priority. Those of minority racial/ethnic backgrounds are strongly encouraged to consider serving on the Board, given our mission and our emphasis on health equity and educational parity. We are especially seeking individuals with experience, skills and interest in or connected to:

• Marketing and communication background or interests
• Community health promotion and healthcare
• Education
• Business and philanthropic development
• Human resource management
• Fundraising

For more information, contact Justin Zellinger, Executive Director at 503-296-7705 or justin@mikeprogram.org or Tyrell Comeaux, Board Chair at TCOMEAUX@LHS.ORG

Spring Reins of Life (SRoL) is a volunteer run public charity providing equine-assisted therapy for groups of trauma survivors in New Jersey. SRoL provides a safe physical and emotional space to find present moment, lessen stress and trigger, and development persona coping skills with the assistance of Horses. We do not offer any riding activities, but rather clients interact with the horses on the ground and become a part of the Herd. This novel treatment is proving itself all over the globe to be an effective healing solution for moderate/severe trauma survivors to make their way back to healthy way of life. SRoL provides EAP (equine assisted psychotherapy) services in Three Bridges, NJ.

SRoL is a volunteer run organization, so volunteers are our lifeline. Nearly all of funding is allocated directly to programming costs/services, we do this as a local nonprofit to be able to serve as many people as we can. Therefore, we rely on awesomely dedicated and passionate volunteers to keep the wheels turning. We have a number of ways in which you can help; a few of the most needed areas are listed below.

SRoL Board of Directors Development / Expansion:
Currently the SRoL executive board re-established in October 2023 and currently has the four officer roles covered. We have room for 3 more Trustees to join the human herd that turns the wheels for our mission to keep running. We search out a few key role-players to help us lead the charge forward. Are you a retired professional? SRoL would do very well to find a business analyst/strategist, a project manager, and a financial planner/ manager to cover some bases that are key to sustainability. If you have a passion for horses and/or mental health along with an understanding for alternative therapies and modalities - we want to hear from you.

The SRoL annual budget is not a huge one (under $200k), yet it is a very vital one. Please consider helping us grow and remain solvent. It matters a whole lot to the clients and their families that we continue to serve. SRoL is in the business of rebuilding and saving lives through a very unique form of trauma therapy. Become part of our Herd and put your expertise and community connections to a meaningful cause.
