Gateway Association believes in transformation of community through the lens of disability. The different angles of community represented by those in the marketing and communications sector are pivotal to Gateway’s messaging. We are specifically looking for board members to join our values-based, 46-year-old board in the area of marketing and communications. A good match would be someone who lives equity, diversity and inclusion in their personal and professional lives. A background in mentorship, innovative thinking and board experience is necessary for a sustainable, long-term relationship with Gateway. Covid has eliminated the need for board members to be physically present at the meetings. Gateway headquarters is in Edmonton and meetings occur between 7-9 times per year.

A marketing and communications portfolio will be co-developed with the board member, along with assignation to a sub-committee (staff and volunteers) with the same portfolio. We are looking for a board member to bring in expertise, strategic support and the gift of time (2-5 hours per month).

Crowddoing Videography/Filmmaking
We are creating virtual volunteer opportunities of people who want to volunteer for 100 hours over the next 6 months who plan to make a 3 hour period available one day a week for most weeks to help Match4Action create short films explaining our concepts and explaining how volunteering in different kinds of groups can work. Exeprtise is provided by volunteers engaging in extending service learning, interdisciplinary public problem solving and creating impact in communities as a consequence. We're early in our work and need a lot of help both helping social enterprises and getting our institution to the next level of scale of capacity so that we can have the impact we are seeking to have. But we need people with a vast variety of talents to seize micro leadership opportunities. We've learned from the Sucess of Open Source by Stephen Weber that volunteerism works best when an individual can identify something that they can do really well that they really want to work on and then get out of their way until their work needs to cross reference with the whole. We try to learn from that by mixing auto-didacts and highly qualified professionals in inter-disciplinary volunteer cohorts working to help social enterprises thrive. Help us help the social enterprise movement to thrive stronger than it has before.

The goal of our classes is to prepare our community member for their Naturalization Interview. Through the program, adults learn English and about U.S. history and government. Our Citizenship Education Team is seeking for volunteers to help us create a study guide platform/app of sorts that can be accessible directly from the student’s cellphones or computers.

Our goal is to have all citizenship questions available on this platform kind of like flash cards that populate both the question and answer. We would like questions such as who is your representative to auto populate according to the students location. Furthermore, we would like for the questions answered incorrectly to populate more often so that the student can master the questions that prove most challenging to the student.

We welcome all ideas on how to integrate technology in order to improve our citizenship classes and better serve our students. Feel Free to reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator Adrian Estrada at 213-385-7800 EXT. 239 or by email at adestrada@carecen-la.org
