Provide safety and technical guidance to high school students as they brainstorm, design, prototype, build, program and test competition robots during January and February; continue during competition season March and April each year. Teach basic principles during the summer months and in the fourth quarter of the year as school starts up. You decide how much time you wish to give based on your common interests. No robot experience is necessary; only the interest to work with motivated teenagers. Head Mentor will provide guidance and direction to individual mentors.
Students learn by doing hands-on activities alongside mentors with industry experience. They learn teamwork by working in small groups with other students, some of whom have 1-3 years robotics experience. Advanced students learn technical topics from field wise mentors with specific technical skills (EE, ME, CS, Programming), while others learn general skills (e.g. Fundraising, Grant Writing, Pit design and layout, Presentation preparation and delivery techniques, outreach to younger students, etc.).
