In 2023 Community Partnership on Aging (CPA) will celebrate its 45th Anniversary. Since its incorporation in 1978 the agency has grown from three cities to six (Mayfield Heights joined the agency in 2011, Mayfield Village in 2013 and Richmond Heights in 2019. South Euclid, Lyndhurst and Highland Heights were the original three) and has proven to be a staple organization for quality programs and services for both active and frail older adults, and their families. While the types of services and programs may have changed with the times, overall needs have not. Community Partnership on Aging was formed by those three original mayors who recognized a need as well as a desire for older adults who want to remain active and independent in their homes for as long as possible. Keeping older adults in their homes not only means they maintain a high sense of self-worth, it means they are remaining active and vital contributors to our communities and to the economy. The Chili Cook-Off first took place in 2013. Utilizing the fire department staff of each of the fire departments as chili ‘chefs’, the event has become extremely high profile and much anticipated among older adults, the fire departments, municipal staff and the community at large, regularly selling out in advance of the event.
This year the event will take place on Friday, October 27 at Highland Heights Community Center, and 2023 marks the first year the event will return since COVID! Additionally, Richmond Heights FD has never had an opportunity to participate due to COVID shut downs.
This is a no-fee entry contest; however, CPA awards $500 to the chili entry named Best Chili via a blind judges’ vote. We also award a trophy to the Audience Choice winner; this year we anticipate another full house of approximately 150 participants!
Your help is needed on the day of the event. We are scheduling volunteers to help with serving, raffle/general event help and clean up after the event.
