Mission Statement

In Argentina today, children from low-income communities are significantly less likely to achieve good results in school, go on to university or get a good job. While almost every child is enrolled in primary school, only 80% of young people begin high school and only 44% graduate. In short, socio-economic status still determines the education a child receives and whether they fulfill their potential. Enseñá por Argentina is an independent charity that uniquely works to transform the life chances of children from low-income communities by creating a movement of inspirational teachers and leaders committed to addressing educational disadvantage. The program is modeled after the Teach For America program in the United States (www.teachforamerica.org) and is part of the Teach for All global network (www.teachforall.org) which gathers partners from 35 countries such as China, Bulgaria, India, Australia and México.

About This Cause

One great teacher can transform a child’s life opportunities. We harness the energy, enthusiasm and drive of exceptional graduates from top universities – many of whom would not have considered teaching - to provide leadership, motivation and, above all, inspirational teaching in schools in challenging circumstances. We target schools in areas of high poverty in Argentina where - many qualified teachers would never consider teaching. Through our Leadership Development Program, these teachers receive support to go above and beyond to have a profound impact on the achievement, access to opportunity, and aspirations of their students. The Enseñá por Argentina mission does not end in the classroom. Over time we are building a movement of leaders with the knowledge, experience and commitment to drive change in classrooms, schools, educational systems and the wider society. Enseñá por Argentina aims to empower, equip and mobilize its Alumni with the skills, tools and networks to support the Enseñá por Argentina mission. In ten years, the Alumni community will consist of over 1,000 teachers, social entrepreneurs, school governors, student mentors, policy makers and leaders in all fields. Enseñá por Argentina conducts rigorous assessments to source the best graduates to teach in schools in challenging circumstances. Graduates must demonstrate a series of core competencies under assessment (communication skills; respect and empathy; leadership; planning and organizing; problem solving; perseverance and resilience; and openness to feedback and self-evaluation). If successful, the graduates will begin the challenging two-year Leadership Development Program whilst working in a school in a particularly deprived area. The Leadership Development Program combines working, training and qualifying as a teacher, with leadership development instruction and coaching. It focuses on developing our teachers as exceptional leaders of learning, as well as giving them skills and knowledge around leading organizations and leading people. The program includes four weeks of intensive teacher training at Enseñá por Argentina's Summer Institute and two years of teaching in a school in challenging circumstances, whilst completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and Enseñá por Argentina’s respected leadership education. We work with an extensive range of education and business partners to deliver the program, which enables our teachers to have a profound impact on student achievement and aspirations. On successful completion of the two-year Leadership Development Program the teachers will become Enseñá por Argentina Alumni. This means joining a growing community which brings with it a host of opportunities to address educational disadvantage in the long-term – something that is core to our mission.
