About This Cause
Paper Cranes Children’s Foundation (PCCF) is an Australian registered charity dedicated to supporting children and young people with complex medical needs, profound disabilities, life-limiting conditions, and those requiring palliative care. Founded in 2023 and based in Southeast Queensland, PCCF was created in response to the urgent need for accessible, inclusive, and compassionate support services for some of the most medically vulnerable children in our community. Our work centers on providing holistic care to children and their families—care that enhances wellbeing, promotes dignity, and reduces isolation. We currently deliver in-home care services across the region, allowing families to access flexible, trusted support where they need it most. Our team works closely with each family to tailor support to their child’s medical and personal needs, providing comfort, connection, and relief to parents and carers who often feel overwhelmed and unsupported. Our target group includes families caring for children who require 24/7 support, many of whom are reliant on medical equipment, have mobility challenges, and are unable to attend school or community activities. These families experience high levels of stress, social isolation, and burnout, often juggling work, caring responsibilities, and medical appointments with little to no respite. PCCF exists to ensure these families are not forgotten and that their children have access to joyful, meaningful experiences in a space designed for them. Now, we are preparing to open Wattle Cottage, a purpose-built respite and wellness centre in Springwood, QLD—the first of its kind in Australia. Inspired by successful international models, Wattle Cottage will offer short-term respite care, therapeutic programs, and family wellness activities in a fully inclusive, homelike setting. It has been designed specifically for children with high and complex needs, with features such as: A hydrotherapy pool Indoor sensory and play rooms Accessible therapy and recreation areas Music and creative spaces An all-abilities playground with adaptive equipment Accommodation options where families can stay on-site if they wish Wattle Cottage is more than a facility—it’s a place of hope, connection, and care. It gives families a much-needed break while ensuring their child is safe, supported, and engaged in a setting tailored to their abilities. The property was purchased by our Co-Founders, who have made a significant personal investment in its future. We are also supported by a highly experienced Board with expertise in health, disability, child protection, governance, and social impact. We are currently working with partners to fund the final stage of development, and any support from donors and community members is warmly welcomed. Your contribution through Benevity will help us bring Wattle Cottage to life and deliver meaningful impact to the children and families who need it most. Together, we can build a future where no child is left behind.
