Mission Statement

batyr is a for purpose organisation that focuses on preventative education in the area of youth mental health. batyr provides programs that train young people to speak about their personal experience with mental ill health and start a conversation in their community. batyr takes these speakers into schools, universities and corporate arenas to continue this conversation around mental health. The programs engage, educate and empower the audience to learn from the experiences of others and to reach out to the great services around them.

About This Cause

batyr was launched in 2011, after founder Sebastian Robertson experienced the frustration and isolation of living silently with mental ill health whilst at university. Sebastian recognised that it was time to have open honest conversations about mental health with young people, and founded the organisation, naming it after batyr (‘hero’), The Talking Elephant From Kazakhstan. Mission To deliver innovative peer-to-peer programs that engage, educate and empower young people. batyr’s programs focus on addressing issues that impact the mental health of young people, and promote resilience and help seeking behaviour. Vision An Australia where young people engage in positive conversations about mental health and are empowered to seek out help when needed.
