Mission Statement

La Trobe University is one of Australia’s newest and most dynamic learning environments -having enrolled its first 511 students in Melbourne, Australia in 1967. Today, La Trobe educates more than 36,000 students – including over 8,000 international students from some 100 countries – across a vibrant and connected campus network spanning from Melbourne and throughout regional Victoria. Since that first enrolment more than 190,000 students have graduated with a La Trobe Degree; creating a strong network of alumni engaged in their communities, that crosses continents, skill sets and generations. La Trobe was established to provide Victoria’s most disadvantaged communities access to higher education. On our 50th birthday, we are proud to say that this legacy continues.

About This Cause

One of the top ten research universities in Australia – and recognised globally for its expertise – La Trobe University has a growing reputation in the Asia-Pacific region for work in strengthening equitable health systems for communities most disadvantaged by poverty, poor educational achievement and reduced life opportunities. The Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre is one of La Trobe’s leading research centres and Australia’s first centre dedicated to research on Autism Spectrum Disorders. As well as supporting research, it provides evidence-based intervention programs, such as the innovative ASDetect app. This app empowers parents and caregivers to identify autism earlier and more accurately than ever before, and was recognised as a finalist this year in the Google Impact Challenge. You can support world-leading research – including this vital research into Autism Spectrum Disorders by donating to La Trobe University today.
