Mission Statement
Our Vision is to contribute to the creation of a socially just and caring community in which every person is safe, secure and valued. Veritas House provides innovative, accessible, responsive services to the community through the provision of care, support and advocacy. Our Mission is to: - End the cycle of homelessness - Empower people to reach their full potential - Strengthen interpersonal, family and community relationships, and - Work in the best interests of children and young people in Out of Home Care (Foster Care). Our core operating values influence the culture and public image of Veritas. They articulate ideals that we aspire to hold ourselves accountable for and offers guidance about how we behave in carrying out our mission. Relationships: We are all connected and the way we behave towards each other matters. Showing respect, being inclusive and communicating in a kind and honest way gives everyone the opportunity to feel valued. Strong relationships lead to mutual understanding and support. Collaboration: We work together to solve problems and deliver solutions. We understand that bringing people together fosters empathy, builds trust and sparks creativity. Collaboration helps us achieve our goals and the goals of the children, young people and others we work with. Compassion: With an open mind, we accept people without prejudice or judgement. Compassion opens our minds to others, regardless of our differences. Compassion allows us to work in a caring, well-informed way that respects the experiences and needs of the people we work with. Authenticity: We are true to ourselves and stand up for what we believe, regardless of pressure from others. We don’t try to be what we’re not, and this transparency means others know where they stand with us. Our actions are genuine and without pretence.
About This Cause
Veritas House is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation that was established in Central Western NSW 40 years ago and has grown to become one of the largest providers of foster care and youth homelessness services in the region, supporting more than 800 children and young people each year. Our programs include: - Youth Specialist Homeless Services, including a 24 hour youth refuge providing short term and emergency accommodation for young people aged 16-24; outreach and transitional housing programs to support young people who have experienced homelessness to move towards independent living; and an after-hours accommodation service for homeless young people to meet the conditions of their bail by being accommodated by Veritas, rather than awaiting their court date in a detention centre. - Permanency Support or Out-of-Home Care (Foster Care): Veritas currently supports more than 70 local children and young people in Out of Home Care who are unable to reside with their families by providing a secure, safe and supportive home environment through foster carers. - Premier’s Youth Initiative, a pilot program designed to support young people aged 16-17 who are leaving Out of Home Care and who are vulnerable to homelessness to live independently. - Homeless Youth Assistance Program supporting young people aged 12-15 years who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness to: rebuild relationships with family, kin and culture; access education, training, employment, health and mental health services; connect with community; and access safe accommodation options. - Youth and Family Support Services, with priority given to Aboriginal families, young families with a parent aged 20 years or younger and families with children over the age of 12. Family Workers provide individualized parenting support, flexible support through strengths-based action planning, support to access mainstream and specialised services and build connections to the local community. - Supported Independent Living Services: an integrated accommodation and support program that aims to prepare Young People aged 16-17 years old at entry, to successfully transition from the Permanency Support Program (PSP) to independent living through the provision of accommodation, case management, and structured and individualised life skills programs for up to 24 months. - Interim Care: a new model of residential care for children and young people with low and medium support needs aged between 9-14 years. Time-limited Interim Care is provided in a safe, child-friendly and home-like environment, with stability and predictability provided through a consistent team of qualified and trained Veritas House staff. The parenting team are responsible for supporting the children and young people to participate in everyday routines, education, cultural and social activities, while work is being undertaken to support the young person to transition to permanency arrangements or a foster care placement.
