About This Cause

OVIS Community Service is the primary provider of family and domestic violence (FDV) services in the Peel region. Our services include; Pat Thomas Refuge Pat Thomas Refuge is a crisis refuge and has been in operation for over 30 years. Pat Thomas Refuge provides safe accommodation and 24/7 support for currently up to 6 women and their children. Warlang Bidi Therapeutic Refuge Established in 2020, Warlang Bidi is Western Australia’s first therapeutic women’s refuge. Warlang Bidi provides 24/7 support to women who have not only been impacted by family and domestic violence, but who are also suffering from serious mental illness and/ or harm from alcohol or other drug (AOD) use. Pinjarra Women’s Centre Pinjarra Women’s Centre provides place based service for women and children in the Pinjarra and surrounding areas. As well as a full time FDV advocate on site, the Centre offers a place for specialist community services to co-locate and provide wrap around support and assistance to women and children with matters including but not limited to FDV, legal, financial, mental health and AOD. The Centre also runs groups and workshops, providing a soft entry option for women who may be needing or seeking FDV supports. The Centre also has a FDV preventative service model by providing women a place to form connections and safety networks. Transitional Housing OVIS has one transitional property and also provides support to up to 5 other families who are residing in transitional accommodation in the Mandurah area. Community Services Our suite of community services include FDV advocacy, Court support and case management. We provide a duty advocacy service at Mandurah Magistrates Court. Our Womenzlink program contacts every victim survivor of an FDV incident responded to by the Police within the Peel region. Our Safe at Home program supports women with case management and practical safety improvements to their home (changing of locks, security lights, security cameras) so that they are not forced to be displaced due to the FDV. Outreach Services Our Outreach Services provides place based advocacy and case management to clients living in the broader Peel region. Education Services We provide FDV education to the community and to workplaces. This education generally focuses on the recognise, respond and refer model. Education programs can be tailored to specific workplaces. We also run the Kids Against Violence program in schools. This primary prevention program works with children as young as year 2 and covers topics such as gender equality, types of violence, emotions and how to stay safe if kids experience family violence at home. Counselling Services OVIS can provide FDV counselling to clients as part of their case management. Sadly, every year OVIS provides support and assistance to over 1000 women in the Peel region. Every day our staff work tirelessly to create a future for all people which is free from violence and abuse.
