Mission Statement

The "Associação Civil Pará Solidário" works on the human development of mothers and grandmothers who raise their children and grandchildren alone, without support from the fathers, and on strengthening vulnerable communities in impoverished areas of the Amazon region in the state of Pará, in northern Brazil. It believes that every person deserves a better future and fights to ensure access to basic human needs such as education, healthcare, food security, sanitation, and housing.

About This Cause

Our association, "Associação Civil Pará Solidário," was founded in November 2020. Its main activity is focused on the Aurá landfill and quilombola communities in Acará, where the poorest fight for their daily survival through garbage collection work. The association aims, ultimately, to restore the natural biome of the area, which is currently heavily polluted, through empowerment activities that will enable the local population to seek better jobs and a better future elsewhere. In 2016, in Pará, 46% of the population lived below the poverty line, earning less than US$ 5.5 a day. In the following years, the number of poor people in the state increased by 21.7 million, and the city of Belém, the state capital, had 30% of its population below the poverty line. Belém is the poorest major city in northern Brazil, and it is the area where we carry out most of our projects, along with communities in Ananindeua and Acará. Our activities aim to eradicate hunger, improve education, dental health, food security, and sanitation. We also offer empowerment training for single mothers, encouraging local workforce participation, housing, home improvements, and, if necessary, provide financial support to vulnerable families. With the help of associates, donors, and other organizations: • We fight malnutrition by distributing ready meals and food baskets, as well as encouraging local and sustainable agriculture through family farming (e.g., donation of seeds and purchase of local products). • We work to increase income and help families build and improve their homes. • In 2020, we started a dental health project and have already served over 1,000 children and adults. In November 2024, we inaugurated our dental clinic, which will be able to serve more people daily if we can secure resources. • We promote educational initiatives through daily literacy classes for children and tutoring to enable literacy for children aged 6 to 12 years. • In 2021, we managed to build a classroom in the Aurá community, and in 2024, we built a classroom in Acará, thanks to donations from individuals and the work of associates and volunteers. Thanks to these small schools, we have encouraged the local workforce by hiring educators and cooks who live nearby. Additionally, the mothers who receive support are also volunteers in food distribution and classroom maintenance. • We offer professional training courses in cooking and beauty services to help families find employment. • We help adults find opportunities to improve their skills to secure a job, improve living standards, and promote sustainable economic growth. • We help bring safe, clean drinking water to people. • We also focus on helping communities become self-sufficient and engage in sustainable agriculture and commerce. As a result of our actions, in 4 years, we have delivered 29,000 food baskets, providing meals for over 2,000 vulnerable families living in extreme poverty. Our educational program and professional courses allowed 113 children, aged 4 to 12, to acquire basic literacy skills, while 70 women, aged 20 to 50, and 10 teenagers and young adults, aged 14 to 20, developed professional skills. Our activities address 12 of the Global Sustainable Development Goals: 1. No Poverty 2. Zero Hunger 3. Good Health and Well-Being 4. Quality Education 5. Gender Equality 6. Clean Water and Sanitation 7. Affordable and Clean Energy 8. Decent Work and Economic Growth 10. Reduced Inequalities 12. Responsible Consumption and Production 16. Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions 17. Partnerships for the Goals Our priorities, as outlined in our statute, are: 1. Promote the dissemination and clarification of issues related to the development of society, poverty eradication, sexually transmitted diseases, labor and employment, education, sports, recreation, environment, health, environmental protection, animal protection, and other social issues through all possible means. 2. Establish agreements and partnerships with similar entities, individuals, public or private legal entities, government and non-government organizations, both nationally and from countries with diplomatic relations with Brazil. 5. Establish or expand relationships with national or international funding bodies, identifying financing and technical support opportunities for the implementation of programs, projects, and events in the scientific, technological, cultural, and social areas. 6. Provide services in the areas of management, environmental education promotion, implementation of selective waste collection, and sorting of recyclable products. 7. Promote health through multidisciplinary assistance to people served by the association.
