Mission Statement

To positively influence the expansion of consciousness and action, to build a collective, solidary and sustainable path.

About This Cause

Founded in 2005 by Betty Feffer and Luiz Alexandre Mucerino, the Jatobás Institute is a civil society organization of public interest whose mission is “to positively influence the expansion of consciousness and action, to build a collective, solidary and sustainable path”. Its operations are concentrated in São Paulo city and Cuesta Paulista, a countryside region where it began its activities. At Cuesta Paulista, the organization: 1. Supports the Max Feffer Culture and Sustainability Center with projects to promote traditional culture, art, and well-being; and 2. Implements a creative economy network, supporting entrepreneurs through a journey that integrates technical and soft skills. In São Paulo, the organization operates in Campo Belo and the Água Espraiada region. The territory is characterized by inequality where middle and upper-class buildings and luxury stores share the same area that 24 poverty communities with precarious houses and deficient access to public health, education and social work facilities. Because of this context, the institution has been operating since 2021 through programs based on systemic and integrated territorial development. The projects offer training to vulnerable groups aiming at employability and economic inclusion; foster a community network institution gathering the NGOs from the region; and invest in the implementation of the only cultural space with free access to the population. The projects contribute to achieving 5 SDGs: 4. Quality Education; 8. Decent Work and Economic Growth; 10. Reduced Inequalities; 11. Sustainable Communities and Cities; and 17. Partnerships for the goals.
