About This Cause

Sea Shepherd Brazil is a non-profit marine life conservation organization. Founded in 1999, our mission is to defend, conserve and protect marine life and marine ecosystems. We use innovative, non-violent direct action tactics to investigate, document and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities in the oceans. Safeguarding the biodiversity of our delicate marine ecosystems, Sea Shepherd Brazil works to ensure the survival of the oceans for future generations. We have been operating in Brazil since 1999 and currently have six active campaigns: - Borrifos: mitigation of human impact and education campaign on whales that breed on our coast; - Cação é Tubarão: a campaign to eradicate the trade for sharks and rays in Brazil which links to shark fin trade worldwide, and raise awareness among the population that sharks (and rays) are highly contaminated by heavy metals harmful to human health; - Defensores de Tubarões: campaign in defense of sharks, responsible for the balance of the ocean, from terrible methods of slaughter as the mitigation of incidents with humans. Our objective is to implement the first marine ecological corridor of Brazil; - Expedição Boto da Amazônia: for the conservation of Amazon river dolphins that are threatened with extinction, mainly due to illegal fishing; - Ondas Limpas: to eradicate marine waste, through educational work and cleaning efforts to remove waste found on beaches, rivers, cities and the seabed in Brazil.
