Mission Statement
We were born in 1995, and like any good representative of Generation Z, we take special care with the environment, people and their rights. We believe that the correct use of forests and their resources is the legacy we want to leave in this world. We are a Brazilian NGO founded at a time when concerns about preserving the environment and the best way to use nature's elements aspire to echo around the world. Through innovative solutions, built together with our partners, we demonstrate that it is possible to change the world and: • Uniting production with conservation. • Combine benefits to people, the environment and the economy. • Reduce gas emissions, which lead to global warming. We operate throughout Brazil, with actions that comply with the conservation of the environment, and also, stimulate and maintain the quality of life of farmers and foresters, traditional, indigenous, quilombola, family members and all of us remained.
About This Cause
IMAFLORA (Forest and Agricultural Management and Certification Institute) – www.imaflora.org a non-profit, non-governmental Brazilian organization created in 1995 to promote the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and to generate social benefits in the forestry and agricultural sectors. State of São Paulo (the City of Piracicaba) has an extremely qualified technical team with a long and diverse field experience. Imaflora believes in forest certification as a tool capable of improving the social and environmental management of forest management ventures, whether it is corporate-oriented or community-oriented and, therefore, has worked with certification since its founding. Imaflora also works with social and environmental projects to develop value chains for the economic empowerment of traditional communities in the Amazon Forest, conducts validation audits, verification and research related to carbon projects, while also taking part in discussion forums on public environmental policies. To this end, Imaflora operates in Brazil and other countries as a certifier of two of the most robust and recognized social and environmental certification systems in the world, the FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) and the Rainforest Alliance. Geographic areas of operation and results achieved by Imaflora: - We operate throughout Brazil. - We have benefited 86,000 people. - We operate in 68.5 million ha (an area larger than France). - We work with 1,258 companies and producers in the forestry, agricultural and carbon sectors. - Five Brazilian biomes. Imaflora has received several recognitions throughout its history. The most recent ones are: - 2019: 100 Best NGOs Award to donate from Brazil. 2019: International Innovation Award for Sustainable Food and Agriculture – UN (United Nations Organization) with Origens Brasil®. - 2019: Finalist of the Katerva Award 2019, considered the Nobel Prize for Sustainability, with Origens Brasil®, in the Behavior Change category. - 2018: Best Business for Climate Award 2018 - with Origens Brasil®, awarded by the Climate Ventures Institute, an organization based on the articulation of leaders from the spheres of climate, technology and business. - 2017: Von Martius Sustainability Award given by the Brazil-Germany Industry Chamber of Commerce, in the Technology category, with the Forests of Value Program. - 2017: 100 Best NGOs Award to donate from Brazil.
