Our mission is to preserve the Brazilian rainforest wildlife and biodiversity through ecotourism, conservation, and scientific research about the Muriquis since 1983.
About This Cause
"Save the Brazilian Rainforest and stop climate change by planting trees". - Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural - Feliciano Miguel Abdala (RPPN-FMA) is a 957 hectare private Reserve with immense ecological and conservation importance that currently supports some 250 muriquis representing roughly 25% of the entire known species population. In addition to being one of the largest remaining populations of this Critically Endangered species, the northern muriquis at the RPPN-FMA have been the subject of systematic field studies since 1983, making it the longest ongoing primate field study in Brazil and one of the longest-running field studies of any primate in the world. - Our project aims to recover 153 acres of native vegetation in the rainforest biome, one of the most threatened ecosystems on the planet, reduced to less than 8% of its original extension. - Our goals are to: 1) Expand ongoing natural regeneration of the forest around the reserve to increase the area of suitable habitat for its wildlife and establish connectivity with other forest fragments. 2) Continue to preserve and manage all conservation, research, and educational activities at the RPPN Feliciano Miguel Abdala. 3) Guarantee the protection of 2,500+ different species, which many are classified as endangered species. 4) Save the world's most peaceful primate for perpetuity, the Muriqui. These initiatives directly impact climate change, which most scientists believe is the biggest threat to our planet.
