Mission Statement

We are Liga Solidária, a Civil Society Organization created in 1923, based on the belief that we can build a fairer society with more opportunities if we can unite love, work and solidarity. Our mission is: "To provide social and educational initiatives that raise children’s, youngsters’ and adults’ awareness of their dignity and transformative potential."

About This Cause

Throughout the year, we help over 13 thousand children, youngsters, adults and seniors in highly vulnerable social situation In the city of São Paulo, Brazil, through 8 educational and citizenship programs, as part of our daily efforts to rebuild people’s dignity and enhance their autonomy. Our Programs: Early Childhood: 10-hour full-time care, stimulation and education for 1,500 infants and toddlers up to 3 years-old, based on National Curriculum Guidelines and on processes of socialization. Teachers regularly receive technical training so they can promote children’s development, strengthening the bond with them and with their families. Considered a constant concern of Liga Solidária, teams of all Day Centers are oriented regularly on the various manifestations of violence against children. Children and Adolescents: This Program serves 500 children and adolescents, ages 6 to 15, in situation of high social vulnerability. We offer workshops and cultural activitiess, classes in sports, cooking, computing, drama, visual arts, dance and music. Sports: We benefit over 350 children and adolescents, ages 6 to 18, in situation of high social vulnerability. Our goal is to improve children and teenagers’ health and wellbeing and to foster values that are associated with the sport, such as empathy, cooperation, tolerance, trust and teamwork. Also, we aim to reduce the risk of children and teenagers of entering in harmful situations, stimulating positive attitudes for the future. Professional Qualification: Our qualification courses help 250 teenagers to be prepared for a future job. Besides technical content, students are stimulated to exercise their citizenship, with the ability to defend their rights and fulfill their obligations. Adult Education: Independence, security, respect, happiness and integration. These are some of the words that our program students a proud to be able to read, write and fully understand. The literacy groups learn and have new experiences that help them reestablish their right to literacy, giving a new meaning to their lives. Each student is treated as a protagonist and a writer of news stories, supported by teaching excursions, debates, group activities and recreational games, which makes the learning process more interactive, challenging and, at the same time, attractive. Families: The Families Program benefits 1,000 families. The work is based on three strategic areas. Psychosocial Support provides customized assistance for families seeking guidance, social support or referral based on their particular needs. Social and Community Relations provide an opportunity where families can build a dialogue through home visits, social, educational and community activities to strengthen family and community bonds, as well as develop skills and independence for everyday life. Network Building, alongside public policy, private sector organizations and involvement in local networks, helps to guarantee families’ rights more effectively. Elderly: Our goal is to help elders to live life healthier and more actively, through cultural, leisure, community and recreational activities that rebuild self-esteem and give moments to remember, for over 280 seniors in social vulnerability. The interaction between participants promotes better social and family coexistence. Nutrition: This program provides access to Food and Nutritional Education (FNE), through culinary workshops, presentations, games, balanced meals and introduction to new foods in order to meet the nutritional requirements of people who receive assistance at our social units. As the only transversal program in Liga, food and nutritional education initiatives are implemented in order to create a learning environment where children, adolescents, adults and seniors all develop the ability to make independent food choices, through proximity with the nutritional universe across all programs.
