Mission Statement

The Generation Program team has been working since 2018 and implements a mentoring program for individual work with vulnerable children and youth. The program is a bridge between children in institutions and volunteer mentors. This is important because in residential services children grow up in an isolated and secure environment - a prerequisite for a lack of skills to cope with life after adulthood. They do not have fruitful contact with children and adults outside the system, they do not have developed social skills, work discipline and self-development. After coming of age, they leave the institutions and soon find themselves without shelter and work, in problematic situations and in practice - outclassed. We provide children and youth with daily psychological and personal support to create social skills, help with education, timely and effective professional orientation. We at the Generation Program upgrade basic care for children and youth from vulnerable groups. We support them to grow into competent and skilled adults. We believe that with business engagement and civic participation, we will extend support to more children. All our activities and all resources to support the children and the centers in which they live are funded by the grace of donors. We strive for every child at risk to be given the opportunity to become a good person and full citizen. Children and youth deprived of parental care are raised in family-type accommodation centers where their basic needs are well covered. Regardless, they need more than a roof over their heads. Our mission is to work together with businesses, institutions, the non-governmental sector and volunteers. To harness a large public resource in the preparation for the lives of children and youth at risk. To protect them from marginalization and to inspire and support them in their professional path to become full people for themselves and others in the community.

About This Cause

We provide individual and ongoing care for children and youth at risk. We create an environment where they feel that they are not alone and with the support of our volunteers they develop personally and professionally. We do not help "piecemeal", but with the dedication of mentors, we lead children by the hand throughout the entire path of growth and preparation for life outside the social system! Together with the Know How Center at the New Bulgarian University, we developed the overall concept for a mentoring program. It is the first of its kind in Bulgaria and we believe that it is the most effective way to help children and youth at risk. Through our Mentoring Program Generation, we work with volunteers who teach how to approach each child with individual commitment and how to cover their needs in their entirety. We guarantee safe communication between the child and the mentor. For the school preparation of the children in the institutions, we provide additional aids, lessons and courses. We monitor their development in the educational process and accompany them in preparation for applying to university. For the professional realisation of children and young people, we try to include as many of them as possible in discovering and developing their strengths, workshops and training on professional orientation, work discipline, rules of the labour market, skills for finding a job, presentation to employers and others. We mediate with employers with suitable opportunities for internships and first jobs. We conduct consultations with career guidance specialists and train mentors to support them on their way. For the personal development of children and youth, we organise workshops and training on emotional intelligence, responsibility and teamwork, family planning, parenting and civic education. We attend cultural and sports events with our volunteers. We organise driving courses for adults. In order for children and young people to be healthy, together with our partners we organise workshops for them on healthy eating and cooking skills. We provide sports clothing and pay the fees for participating in sports clubs. We organise a variety of outings and attractions in nature - excursions, rafting, vacations at sea, camps and much more. We are directly involved in solving their health problems. To develop the children's talents, with the help of donors, we provide them with the devices and materials they need, connect them with teachers and schools, and pay the necessary fees. Children also have daily needs such as hygienic cosmetics, prescription glasses, mobile phones, vitamins and what not. Our team is behind all this. We started working as volunteers and mentors, but over time we had to take a professional approach to cover much more than children. We are in the process of building a space that we have named the Pristan (Wharf) centre. Youth who are accommodated in transitional housing need a safe place outside the centre where they can meet friends, find solace, develop themselves with workshops and training. Young adults who have left the institution need even more such a space to belong to, where they know they can always come back and when they find it difficult in the adult world, spend some time in a comfortable environment and get courage and advice on how to get back on their feet. Pristan centre will be the intersection of all of them, together with their mentors, who we will train on site, meeting with businesses through events that we will organise together and the outside world, with which young people will be able to interact safely with us. By supporting the Pristan Center, companies can invest in the development of the next generation of leaders and innovators. With their contribution, they will engage in socially responsible activity and help build a better and sustainable society for all. What do we need? Financial resources for children's needs. To meet the needs of children and young people for school and language lessons, culture, courses, clothes, cosmetics, prescription glasses, electronic devices, sports, equipment, excursions and what not, it is necessary to have funds. Materials and services for children's needs. All the needs of children and alternative care homes can also be met with an in-kind donation of goods or services - furniture, textiles, hygiene materials, prescription glasses, electronic devices, sports, equipment, digital services and everything, etc. Volunteers for our activities. For the activities of helping children and youth, we need the support of enthusiastic volunteers. With them, we take the children to various events, mediate in front of institutions, schools, sports clubs and employers. We shop, organise celebrations and clean-ups. We collect, distribute and transport donations in kind - clothes and shoes. We are with young people in the selection of prom dresses and in any situation in which they need support. Expert support. We work with psychologists and social therapists. Many children and young people need legal protection and legal services. We are in dire need of maintenance and development of our sites. We need video processing to show the public how these children live and that they should not be forgotten. We need to promote the work of volunteers to increase public support. Mentor training resource The mentoring program requires resources and a space where training takes place. The job of child development experts is to train the mentors and support the children, which also costs money.
