Those people are very concerned concerned about the lack of information and understanding and the inadequacy of treatment for people living with sickle cell disorders.

About This Cause

In Africa, you will find many families that have been affected by Sickle cell disorder, those families have been ripped apart, untimely deaths are common, children with Sickle cell disease are constantly ostracized from their families and are branded witches. Children, young adults face difficulties that lead sometime to low self-esteem and suicidal thoughts. OUR FOCUS IS ON THE CHILDREN AND ADULTS IN NEED AFFECTED BY THE DISEASE, TO HELP THEM LIVE LIFE TO THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AND SECURE THE CARE AND SUPPORT THEY NEED DAILY. Our mission: -Raise awareness about Sickle cell disease ( SCD) and Sickle Cell Trait (SCT), thus decreasing the number of sufferers in the future. We promote public awareness and education through prints and digital publications (newsletters, website, social media platforms, etc.), and conferences. Free blood screening tests are also offered to the general public for the blood disorder to determine SCD or SCT. -Improve the health and social well-being of individuals and families involved. The charity provides preventive drugs to a number of young people affected. Every month, emergency funds are made available at a hospital of choice (Laquintini Hospital in Douala) for the less privileged people when they have severe crisis. Some children will also benefit from scholarships and grants starting in September 2019. -Work with the government to equip more hospitals with blood screening tools for newborns for blood disorder so an appropriate and comprehensive care should be available from birth if they have any type of Sickle Cell Disorder. Our goal is to impact the life of the maximum of people living with sickle cell disease across the country with a wide network of well-informed, committed and active supporters working at local and national levels. UASCD works closely with the National Association of Sickle Cell Disease in Cameroon.
