Mission Statement
The mandate of the Oshawa Aquatic Club (OSHAC) is to promote, foster and teach the process of competitive swimming within a multi-level competitive swim structure. OSHAC is devoted to the development of each swimmer to his/her highest level of achievement. This is accomplished through high level coaching based on the competitive swim disciplines of technique, training and competition. Focus is on both the physical and psychological aspects of competitive swimming. Good athletes are also good people who require a healthy, co-operative and educational environment. By supplying this environment, OSHAC fosters good competitive spirit and builds strong citizens.
About This Cause
Our focus is on both physical and psychological aspects of competitive swimming. The Oshawa Aquatic Club has been in existence for 47 years and has operated as a not-for-profit volunteer driven organization for this time. We represent up to 96 competitive swimmers aged 8 through 17, and up to 128 swimmers aged 5 through 13 three sessions per year in our grassroots developmental program for a total of over 250 individual swimmers annually. We have one Head Coach, two Age Group Coaches, and up to ten Junior coaches. Ten very dedicated volunteers serve as the members of our Board of Directors and are responsible for the operational components of running the Club. Our coaches are positive role models who demonstrate leadership while providing goal setting, guidance, motivation, direction and supervision to swimmers in all age groups. Our Club has a strong focus on strategies for coaching girls and enhancing long term athlete development. OSHAC focuses on a social and welcoming environment on the pool deck to create inclusion and a sense of belonging. We value diversity in Oshawa and try to reflect that on the pool deck. OSHAC believes that sport is about the pursuit of personal excellence but it also is about friendships, learning, health and personal growth. OSHAC realizes that sport participation has a significant impact on how females perceive themselves. With 80% of our members identifying as female, we know that sport is an important contributor to success in education, career and community through the development of confidence and resilience. OSHAC is committed to providing positive role modelling in building a positive culture to help our female members to achieve their goals in life.
