Mission Statement
To restore hope and provide opportunity for the less privileged children by offering shelter, basic education, skill development and health services
About This Cause
Joy's Centre is an accredited orphanage and community school with 200 beds and 255 children up to Grade 7 in Kijooha (Kazo), 5 hours southwest of Kampala in rural Uganda. Joy's Centre Corporation holds title to the 27 acres of land they have built on. There are dormitories for girls, boys and staff, a central kitchen with wood stoves, administrative offices, laundry, showers and new lavatories with flushing toilets. A new 150ft well provides ample water for the Centre with a 100,000 litre tank of water from which families can also access. They grow food from a 1-acre banana plantation and a garden area. They also have a small herd of cows, goats and chickens. The Centre is energized by solar power, the internet connection is unstable. Ongoing additions to the Centre provide a consistent level of education and nutrition to our staff and students. Joy's restoration of hope is a not-for profit organization that runs as a project of the Rotary Club of Saskatoon SK. The Centre offers assistance to orphans through sponsoring children's school fees, setting up a home, providing adequate learning tools like text books and scholastic materials among others. Our school boarding section offers temporary accommodation for children who are desperate to find a home. Children from within the surrounding local community who are able to afford the cost of education on day or boarding basis are also admitted. The fees raised from those who can afford is used to subsidize the cost of maintaining the disadvantaged children so as to enable them to study free of charge.
