Mission Statement

Building the Korean-Canadian community, one person at a time!

About This Cause

KCWA Family and Social Services, formerly known as the Korean Canadian Women's Association (hereafter, "KCWA") is a non-profit organization established in 1985 by a group of women who were concerned with women and family issues. Since then, KCWA has served, inspired and advocated for thousands of Canadians and immigrants of Korean descent. KCWA started as one of only a few non-profit organizations in Canada that provided services to newcomers from Korea. Since then, KCWA has grown to provide year-round services and programs to Canadians and Korean immigrants from all walks of life to meet their unique needs whether they are men, women, seniors or youth. Our culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate services are designed to empower immigrants and support them in reaching their full potential and integration into Canadian society. KCWA's mission is "Building the Korean-Canadian community, one person at a time." To do this, we aspire to: (a) Empower all members of the community to live free from violence, poverty, and inequity; (b) Provide culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate services and programs; and, (c) Enhance the well-being of immigrant families and promote their efforts to realize their potential. For achieving KCWA’s mission, we provide: (a) Settlement services to immigrants and refugees; (b) Family counselling services including Transitional Housing Support Programs (THSP) and counselling for Violence Against Women (VAW) and their dependents; (c) Volunteer training and matching program; (d) Senior program such as prevention of elder abuse and isolation; and (e) Public awareness campaigns such as Human Rights, health and related community issues.
