Mission Statement
To provide a safe, supportive place where children, youth, and families can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and skills for life.
About This Cause
We offer programs and services for children as young as one month to youth up to age 24 and programs for families. We offer most of our programs at no cost to minimal cost to the participants. Our children’s programs and services include childcare (daycare for young children and afterschool care for school-aged children), Spring Break and Summer camps and more. Our Power Start program provides transportation and a healthy breakfast and recess snack for children (ages 5-12) in five inner-city schools who may be experiencing food insecurity and/or issues with school attendance. The schools identify these children and we provide this service free of charge to the families. Our First Steps Program is an educational program for young mothers that provides academic upgrading, parenting and life skills classes, and career and education planning. Our youth programs include after school drop-in where youth (ages 11-18) can access the Club for homework help, a healthy snack, or just have a safe recreational space to play games and make friends. Our Nights Alive program offers a safe recreational space where youth can have a hot meal, access community services, play pool or other games and have a safe ride home after 11pm. We also offer youth life skills, a free program that teaches youth between 11 and 24 valuable life skills such as healthy cooking and eating, mental health and wellness, team building, employment skills, and preparing them for life after high school. Youth have access to hygiene products and food hampers. Our family programs also offer access to food through our Friday Family Nights, where families come to play games, participate in crafts and have a hot meal. We also offer parenting education and support groups.
