About This Cause
Founded in 1940, Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) is a non-profit organization committed to upholding the highest standards, as recognized by Accreditation Canada's Exemplary Standing. We proudly offer scholarships to students in need across the country, and we are the largest nonprofit organization in Canada funding research that improves the quality of life for Deaf and hard of hearing people, through CHS Global Partnerships. Unique in North America, CHS offers a complete roster of essential services, including sign language interpreting; one-on-one language development for deaf and hard of hearing children using play as the medium of learning; employment consulting; sign language instruction; speechreading training; hearing testing; hearing aids; counselling; and, the most complete range of communication devices that assist and augment communication including text telephones (TTYs), visual smoke detectors, baby monitors, signaling devices and alarm clocks. CHS’s national advocacy initiatives and partnerships further the organization’s goal of removing communications barriers and promoting equity for its consumers. The organization’s communication devices program has partnered with the Deaf Centre Manitoba, Society of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Nova Scotians, and Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services to offer its extensive expertise and full range of communications devices and products to more Canadians. We support informed choices: we give you unbiased information on all known options and you decide what best suits you and your family.
