About This Cause
TELUS World of Science - Edmonton (TWOSE) is Canada’s fifth largest science centre and third largest in annual attendance with upwards of 430,000 visitors each year. TWOSE is a non-profit, charitable organization with the mission of fostering a positive science and technology culture in Northern Alberta that inspires and motivates people to learn about, and contribute to, science and technology advances that strengthen themselves, their families, and their community. The organization began as Canada’s first planetarium in 1960, became a science centre in 1984, and is now the most visited science centre or museum in Alberta. Seventy-five percent of TWOSE’s operating revenues are self-generated through admission fees and retail operations. Our Mission is to create a positive science and technology culture that inspires and motivates people to learn about, and contribute to, science and technology advances that strengthen themselves, their families, and their community. TWOSE enjoys excellent support for the community. Its 198 volunteers contribute 12,000 hours of service each year. Visitor surveys typically report that over 97% of its guests are satisfied with their experience (ratings of 3/5 - 5/5). TWOSE also enjoys an active social media community with over 27,000 Facebook followers, 8,000 Twitter subscribers, and nearly 9,000 Instagram followers. It has one of the strongest means of communication with its stakeholders of all science centres across Canada.
