Mission Statement
Interval House of Ottawa (IHO) provides safe shelter and support, intervention and prevention services, and advocacy to break the cycle of violence.
About This Cause
Interval House of Ottawa (IHO) is a 38-bed emergency shelter that works from an intersectional, feminist, and anti-oppressive approach to provide services for cis and trans women, two-spirit, non-binary and gender-diverse people alongside their dependents and pets. Each year at IHO, approximately 100 survivors and 180 children reside with us; over 2,000 calls are answered on our crisis line; and over 200 survivors are served in the community by the Transitional & Housing Support Program. The Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) funds 20 of our 38 beds, and the remaining 18 beds are funded by donations from the community. Since it costs over $4,000 per day just to keep our doors open, IHO would not be able to make a difference in the lives of survivors and theirchildren without your help. Services we offer include: · 24/7 Crisis Line (613-234-5181) · Crisis counselling and ongoing daily support available to women and their dependents 24/7 · Support with transitioning to a new home · On-site indoor pet housing area for residents' pets · Support for women who reside in the community through our Transitional & Housing Support Program · Assistance with family law, finances, affordable housing, immigration matters, daycare, connections to community programs, and bursaries For many of us, family and home are where we feel safe. For some survivors and children, this is not so. Violence against women and gender-based violence occurs at an alarmingly significant rate every day and affects thousands of survivors and children across Canada.
