Mission Statement
AutismBC (legal name Autism Society of British Columbia) has been working in communities across British Columbia for over 40 years, providing information, support, and connection to autistic individuals and families from early diagnosis through to adulthood.
About This Cause
AutismBC is one of the most established, trusted province-wide organizations for autism information and support. Dedicated to the well-being of children, individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) we have 4 regional offices located: Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Northern BC, and the Interior. We provide programs under our key objectives; Connect: Our role in communities is to support grassroots ideas that help children, parents, siblings, families and individuals affected by ASD connect. Our AutismBC goes to… events are popular for families due to the low cost (usually free) and opportunity to connect with other families who are facing similar challenges to themselves. These events also allow families to provide their children with new experiences, allowing them to develop social and life skills in a safe, supportive, judgement free environment. Support: Our information officers are all parents of children and young adults with ASD, apart from our Northern BC coordinator who identifies as an adult with autism. From our dedicated information phone line, to face-face meetings our delivery is different in each community. Educate: AutismBC runs workshops across BC that are attended by a wide audience, depending on the topic. Our educational lectures invite leaders from the world of autism to present new ideas, techniques, guidance and information to communities allowing them to better support their child or adult with ASD. Inform: Through our information officers, website and library we provide free access to resources, books and information and share new therapy ideas and autism research from across the world through our digital platforms. The autism spectrum is vast and changing, there is no one idea that fits all. Providing children, families and individuals access to resources, tools and research that allows them to be better informed about their individual situation is a key piece of our work.
