Mission Statement
The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.
About This Cause
For over 100 years, The Salvation Army has been providing practical assistance to people in Thunder Bay. The Salvation Army Community & Residential Services Centre also known as the Journey to Life Centre on Cumberland St. offers residential supports in a safe and caring environment. Services include an emergency shelter for men experiencing homelessness, a permanent home for men with mental health issues, a half-way house for men transitioning from correctional facilities back into the community, and the Journey to Life transitional housing program. Caseworkers help residents to identify needs, set goals, provide programs, and assist in accessing services so that they will be able to have the best life possible knowing that this will look different for each person. Families and individuals living in the community are supported through other programs. Our food bank provides hampers to about 350 households a month. Our Soup Van Mobile Meal Program provides a meal to 100 – 250 people each evening. A breakfast program is provided at St. James School and the After the Bell Program provides breakfast packages to families in need with distribution in local parks . Our goal is to provide the basics of food and shelter to those we serve as well as help them reach their full potential.
