Mission Statement
Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada is our country’s leading charity dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth and families involved in the child welfare system.
About This Cause
An estimated 59,000 children and youth in Canada are in foster care or group homes and 299,500 others are identified as at risk of abuse and neglect in Canada. All children deserve access to the same opportunities to thrive. Through no fault of their own, these young people are at risk of a lifetime of unrealized potential. • The average youth in care moves between 5 foster homes and 5 schools, disrupting their lives with each move • 46% of kids in care graduate from high school, compared with 83% of their peers • Youth involved in the child welfare system are 200 times more likely to become homeless than the general population It takes a community, join us. Your donation will support the Foundation’s work to improve outcomes. Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada is strengthening families, supporting kids in care and connecting youth transitioning from the child welfare system with the opportunities they need to establish independent, meaningful lives. Last year, through Foundation programs: • 3,471 kids and 2,908 families gained access to resources to help them overcome barriers that put them at risk of entering child welfare • 7,543 children in care accessed education supports like tutoring and enriching opportunities like camp, sports and the arts to help stay on track at school • 4,449 youth were helped to successfully gain access to resources and supports such as scholarships, employment-readiness supports, mental health supports, housing supports, life skills development and more to be better equipped to navigate life on their own Learn more about the impact of your support at cafdn.org and on social media @cafdn
