Our mission is to help bring smiles to the faces of children who otherwise would not have a chance to play Canada's National Sport.
About This Cause
L’Avalanche Hockey Kidz is a unique multifaceted non-profit program that uses the sport of hockey to educate and empower under-resourced youth and youth with special needs. We help them prosper in the game of life. Avalanche Kidz builds lives and unites communities by positively impacting the lives of our players and their families while preparing them for success on the ice and off. We proudly serve all boys and girls ages 4-13 in the Montreal area. We help build character and develop self-esteem by teaching important life skills. The financial commitment to a hockey program can place Canada’s national sport out of reach for many kids. With your help we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to lace up. No parent should have to choose between hockey and heat. Avalanche Kidz is a brand-new program. This year alone we dressed 60 kids in full hockey equipment. Not only did we set everyone up with equipment we also ensured that the children and the families in need received winter coats, boots, food, and even couches. We are so much more than just a hockey program. We use hockey as the vehicle to ensure that these special children are given the love, self-esteem, and self-confidence that they deserve. It gives them a place to belong. Our program is made up of children who come from families that are immigrants, refugees, low-income single parent homes, and children who have special needs. What makes Avalanche Kidz unique is that we accept everyone. We run a special program for kids with autism, developmental delays and other neurological disorders. Every child, no matter who they are or where they come from, have a place in our program. Avalanche Kidz is a learn to skate, and developmental hockey program. We adapt the program to the ability and needs of each child. Every child is made to feel important and loved. Every child has a spot and a special place with Avalanche Kidz. Avalanche Kidz involves students from local high schools to help on ice and mentor the children. It is very much built on kidz helping kidz. Mentorship and leadership through peers are something we strive for and put great emphasis on. This program thrives at large due to the support of donors and friends. Many donors have made gifts to provide immediate funding to help us with ice time, hockey equipment, transportation, apparel, storage, nutrition, and other needs. We believe that hockey should be accessible to all kids no matter their circumstances. Help us make dreams come true!
