Mission Statement
For over 110 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been a social justice champion for children and youth facing adversity. Our mission is to enable life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people
About This Cause
The Problem: The world is not equal. Some children and youth face more adversity than others reaching their full potential. The Solution: The single most common factor for children who end up doing well is having the support of one stable and committed relationship with an adult. This increases social-economic competence, mental health and wellbeing, and educational engagement and employment readiness. Providing that relationship is exactly what Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada does to support children, their families and our communities. Our network of agencies coast to coast brings to life the Theory of Change. Through the “power of three” – the mentor; the family; and the organization – children and youth access the life-changing developmental relationships they need to reach their full potential, at no cost to them. Given the powerful role that mentorship can play in the life of a child or youth, it is concerning that children are waiting for access to mentors and related programming. Generous donations bridge the gap between a pipeline of trained volunteers and children needs this transformative intervention. With your support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, YOU can be a spark that ignites potential in a young person! In the words of a volunteer mentor, “The time you invest in someone else comes back to you in ways you'd never imagine. Your heart will be filled with a new joy. Take a chance on someone and be that person for a child that your younger self needed".
