Mission Statement

Discovery House is a trusted, dynamic Calgary agency dedicated to the safety and well-being of women with children leaving domestic violence. We offer shelter, hope and education through individualized shelter and community support services that result in healthier families and stronger communities. Our mission is to end the traumatic cycle of domestic violence for families with children. Vision: Our communities are free from family violence.

About This Cause

Discovery House was founded more than 40 years ago as the first second-stage shelter in Calgary. This second stage is critical for providing women with the tools they need to rebuild their lives. Since stays in emergency shelters are short, women are more likely to have no choice but to return to their abuser in communities without second-stage support. Discovery House recognized the need to fill this resource gap for women leaving violent and traumatic relationships. Domestic violence is a significant problem in our community and impacts all of us. It affects people from all socioeconomic, educational, and racial groups. With your support, together we can end the cycle of domestic violence.
