Mission Statement
Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides' mission is to empower Canadians with disabilities to navigate their world with confidence and independence by providing Dog Guides at no cost to them and supporting each pair on their journey together.
About This Cause
Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides are provided at no cost to eligible Canadians despite costing over $35,000 to train and place. The Foundation relies on donations from individuals, service clubs, foundation and corporations and does not receive any government funding. Founded in 1983, Lions Foundation has expanded over the years and is unique in that it is one of the only guide dog schools in North America to train Dog Guides in seven internationally accredited Dog Guide programs: • Canine Vision: for people who are blind or visually impaired • Hearing: for people who are deaf or hard of hearing • Autism Assistance: for children who have autism spectrum disorder • Service: for people who have a physical or medical disability • Seizure Response: for people who have epilepsy • Diabetic Alert: for people who have diabetes with hypoglycemic unawareness • Facility Support: for professional agencies assisting individuals in traumatic situations Now the largest school of its kind in Canada, Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is located in Oakville and has a breeding and training facility in Breslau. The Foundation operates under the highest standards and is a fully accredited member of International Guide Dog Federation and Assistance Dogs International.
