Mission Statement
Childcan raises awareness and funds to provide personalized, responsive and compassionate programs and services to families facing the childhood cancer journey, from diagnosis, through treatment, post0treatment care, or bereavement.
About This Cause
Childcan is a registered Canadian charity based in London, Ontario that provides responsive support services for children, and their families, diagnosed with cancer at Children’s Hospital LHSC located in London. Children’s Hospital LHSC is the regional referral centre for Southwestern Ontario so Childcan supports kids and families from throughout the large geographical area LHSC serves. Childcan founders, parent David Cohen and Dr. L.L. Barrie de Veber, Immunologist/Oncologist, knew first-hand about the hardships facing families when children were diagnosed with cancer. Dr. de Veber and Mr. Cohen understood that these parents and children had needs that weren’t being met; financial, emotional and social support resources were not readily available. In 1974, the need and a late night conversation began a proud history of support that continues today. Many years later that need for support has not changed! Our Mission: Childcan raises awareness and funds to provide personalized, responsive and compassionate programs and services to families facing the childhood cancer journey, from diagnosis, through treatment, post-treatment care, or bereavement. Our Vision: We believe childhood cancer must be designated a child health priority, and that support services for families are critical. Value Proposition: Childcan strongly commits to enhancing the quality of life of children and families impacted by childhood cancer, by providing them with vital support.
