Mission Statement
The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation raises funds to help The Moncton Hospital deliver excellent healthcare and promote wellness to meet the needs of our communities.
About This Cause
In 1965 Ralph Belyea was Chairman of The Moncton Hospital Board of Trustees. Under his leadership and that of Reuben Cohen a group of committed individuals founded the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation, Inc., with contributions from the Albert and Westmorland County Councils. The primary objective of this group was and is to raise funds to assist The Moncton Hospital in its mission. Many years ago the Friends adopted a logo, which depicts people - patients, families, caregivers, FRIENDS - their closeness and interdependence. Health care funding is a government responsibility, but all governments across the country are experiencing increasing difficulty in meeting this responsibility. The government does reimburse hospitals for services to patients and pays virtually the full operating cost of all public hospitals in New Brunswick. The government is unable to fully fund all of the Hospitals' equipment and special program needs. That is why charitable giving is becoming more and more essential to the provision of excellent health care and why the work of the Foundation is vital to ensuring that The Moncton Hospital continues to stay abreast of developments in medical technology. A board of volunteer directors governs the foundation. Volunteer leadership and participation are key to the foundation's success. Staff support is provided by Horizon Health Network, Moncton Zone. The Foundation does incur some direct operating costs and partially subsidizes Horizon Health Network, Moncton Zone for this staff support. Today individuals, service clubs, and the corporate sector are faced with tougher decisions concerning their charitable dollars. The number of registered charities in Canada has grown to more than 80,000 and the volume of charitable requests has increased accordingly. Despite these facts and in spite of difficult economic times, contributions to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation continue to grow. We believe this is because people recognize the vital importance of having top quality health care available here at home. They are also becoming increasingly aware that available government funding will no longer satisfy the health care costs and expectations of the community.
