About This Cause
SUMMARY OF SERVICES: • Marianne’s Place: A 24-hour accessible emergency residential shelter for women and their children who are experiencing relationship violence (physical, sexual, emotional, verbal, financial abuse and/or stalking) and/or human trafficking. • 24-Hour Crisis Line: A 24-hour telephone and TTY support and referral line in Guelph and Wellington County for those who have experienced or are experiencing physical, sexual, emotional or financial abuse and/or stalking. We also receive calls from concerned friends and family members, service providers and other professionals in contact with abused women. • Transitional and Housing Support Program: THSP offers a wide range of support to women and gender-diverse people who are experiencing abuse, have left abusive relationships recently or in the past, or are considering leaving. We assist in finding safe, long-term housing with an emphasis on community collaboration. With shelters at capacity, counsellors used creative safety planning and alternative solutions to support clients. • Sexual Assault Centre: SAC offers individual and group counselling and support to women 16 years of age and older who have or are experiencing any form of sexual violence. We also offer support to families, partners and friends of survivors of sexual assault or abuse. Many clients face complex mental health issues and prolonged court cases with mixed outcomes, making counsellor support critical throughout the process. The process of trauma counselling is slow and difficult, with the average person staying in counselling for 2+ years. • Rural Women’s Support Program: RWSP provides services to women living in Wellington County who have been or are; in an abusive relationship, experiencing human trafficking, experienced childhood sexual abuse/incest, went through a recent or past sexual assault, harassment and/or stalking. Outreach is provided in rural areas through phone, Zoom, and in-person appointments. Rural clients are currently navigating a lack of affordable housing, long waits for subsidized housing, waitlists for mental health support, and increased gas and food costs. RWSP offices are located in Erin, Fergus, Mount Forest and Palmerston. • Anti-Human Trafficking: Provides essential support to survivors or those currently experiencing sex trafficking, including helping them escape difficult situations. We address various crises, including mental health, addiction, safety planning and provide basic needs, such as personal care items, Naloxone kits and cell phones. • Family Court Support Program: Navigating the Family Court System can be difficult, confusing and overwhelming. For women who have experienced abuse in their relationship, this process is intensified by safety concerns and increased complexities with processes relating to custody, access and support. FCSP provides support by educating clients on their legal rights, the effects of intimate partner and sexual violence, enhanced safety planning, and preparation for court appointments, including submissions of records and affidavits. • Public Education: Our Public Educators facilitate presentations, workshops, and professional development trainings to engage participants in proactive prevention violence-prevention initiatives. G-W WIC delivered 202 educational events, workshops, and trainings to 6,270 participants. We launched national and local campaigns, including anti-human trafficking education for students in local school boards, and hosted awareness events like Take Back the Night, December 6th Vigil and International Women’s Day. • Practical Supports: We attempt to wrap our clients with both emotional and practical support. We maintain a large Donation Room and a Food Pantry at our counselling centre and main office. Marianne’s Place and each of our rural locations also maintain areas for in-kind donations for our clients. We support our clients with items ranging from toiletries to baby formula to gift cards for household needs. We will purchase if we have to but we rarely need to, as our generous community supports us through various ‘drives’ for items and gift cards.
